I got your name correct.
So now, my understanding is to get the XML structure out of SAP. SAP automatically creates xsd's as well. I will create DFDL for text file as destination.
what would be the source. Am i gonna be using esql for this transformation?

I don't know - are you? You've stated in other posts you're new to Java so maybe not that. If it's more simplistic than I think it's going to be you could use a Mapping node. Or you could use ESQL. Again, whichever you feel best fits your situation. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Make sure when you create the DFDL model that you follow the IDOC Structure as defined by SAP and that you use a differentiator on the record for the SDATA part depending on the trim(segname) of the EDI_DD40.
On the EDI_DD40 you will most probably have some mandatory setup (depends what in what order) and some choice because not all segments are mandatory...
