You should. WMB isn't built on anything; it's a standalone product that doesn't require additional code support.

Your friend might be thinking of WESB, which is built on / integrated with / requires WAS.

But WAS is not Tomcat. If it's anything, it's Apache.

WMB is a series of Java applets running under Tomcat? There's an architectual vision to conjure with...

Broker runs in a C++ runtime with a Java runtime.

That's the biphttplistener. It uses Tomcat under the covers.

The SOAP listener uses AXIS under the covers.

Neither of them host main broker functionality.

				| I'd really like to know why your friend thinks that.
Please enlighten us. I'm sure we'd all have a good laugh.

Seriously, your friend is very much mistaken.
It has a number of technologies built into it. A scan of this forum would give you a number of hints.
Then a perusal of the documentation would give you more detail of the underlying technology at the core of broker.

Every time you reinvent the wheel the more square it gets (anon). If in doubt think and investigate before you ask silly questions.

No. C++ spinning up a Java runtime. Like (as my most worthy associate points out) it spins up a number of technologies.

There's all sorts of stuff down there in the darkness. Most of which (as recent threads have discussed) it's best not to try and exploit or extend directly.

I mean, just because you've found bits of Tomcat & WMB is internally exploiting Tomcat technology doesn't mean you can replace all your Tomcat servers with WMB & have it run the code they were running. Nor does it mean you can treat WMB as if it's Tomcat.

I suppose a lot hinges on what your friend meant by "built on". If he meant "built in" then he'd be partially right. To me "built on" means "relies on" (as WESB is built on WAS) or "extends" (as WMQ monitoring is built on the base Tivoli Omegamon product).

				| More important than what WMB is built on, is what WMB can offer. WMB offers extremely fast data parsing, in a high speed messaging engine, far superior to any other product. The toolkit by itself is a jewel also. _________________

Quite so. And in V8 there is also a .NET runtime (CLR) as well (on Windows).
