Name: WebSphere MQ
Version: 7.0.1.3
CMVC level: p701-104-110134
BuildType: (Production)
/var/mqm/qmgrs/QMVC1/qm.ini
Log:
LogPrimaryFiles=180
LogSecondaryFiles=50
LogFilePages=4096
LogType=LINEAR
LogBufferPages=512
LogPath=/MQHA/QMVC1/log/QMVC1/
LogWriteIntegrity=TripleWrite
The filesystem /MQHA/QMVC1/log/QMVC1/active/ is set to 50GB.
The present file systems is 60% full.
In the average, there are 12 log files are generated (each log size 16MB) within an hour in /MQHA/QMVC1/log/QMVC1/active folder and day-to-day to file system size are increasing.
Here I'm left with a bunch of questions -
Since the InfoCenter says : In WMQ7, the default number of log pages is 4KB. This give a default log file size of 16MB.
- Why we need 16MB LogFilePages? Any specific reason to specify such large file size? What additional recovery possible than WMQ 6.0-4MB?
- Due to daily increasing File System Space, I want to set LogFilePages=1024. This give a log file size of 4MB. Save lot of sace in the FS.
I would like to know the impact to set LogFilePage=1024 in WMQ 7.0 Environments (Linear Logging).
I confirmed with the developers that messages are not high transactional so there are no long running transactions keeping the active log space held open.

You can't alter LogFilePages without recreating the queue manager.
I mean, you can, but it won't take effect... 
Presumably the settings are as they are for historical reasons. |

What is your method for clearing out unneeded files? If it is used more often in the day you can decrease your space. |

You assume that you would have the same number of log files generated, even if you could make them smaller. If the size and volume of transactions passing thru the systems stays the same, MQ still has to log that data and its going to take the same amount of space, whether its in a few bigger logs or in more smaller ones.
