Version 5.0, in many circles, has been deemed the "lemon" version of MQ. It was only out a short number of months before IBM was avidly working on version 5.1. Back then, they (IBM) ran away from this release faster than a jack rabbit and urged their customers to do likewise. You (and your client) should do the same. _________________ IBM Certified MQSeries Specialist

actually client is insisting to go on with v 5.0 because in thier distributed queueing they do not want security because it will take a lot of time to migrate which will affect production
secondly it is required on one server only since all qther servers running on the same version are doing good |

You can run v5.3 or v6 without security. You can disable the OAM in the qm.ini file.
Your clients continue to show that they are completely insane, however, and should be paying you bonuses for putting up with them.
They appear to want to steer their race car from the hood ornament. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

i am not sure about the patches of os
but version is 5.6
as i ve already stated that as per clients contract with ibm, ibm is ready to support for those servers running on 5.0 , only thing they want is a proper installation , followed by testing and then including that in production
also presently it is test server with mq already installed or not "i dont know"
thanx |

I don't think so. When I first got involved with MQ, in1998, the current release was 5.0 CSD3. The Sydney Olympics (2000) ran the results service on 5.0 CSD6.
Sorry, a bit off-topic.
It is highly unlikely that IBM has agreed to service such an out of date release. I am sure that Sun will not service 5.6; that has been out of date for as long. _________________ MQSeries.net helps those who help themselves.. |

Then I repeat my previous comment - if IBM are providing support, get them to provide documentation including the installation guide.
Though I agree with Nigelg - if IBM has agreed to support this, the sales guy must have been a) desperate b) drooling c) convinced it was a joke his collegues were perpatrating. I mean, IBM supporting a 10 year old version? After that, convinicing Sun to support 5.6 must have been simple.
Is this what you meant by "they are gonna kill us for that" - these people are using threats of violence to obtain support? They've beaten a contract out of IBM? Kidnapped the sales guy's blue tie and threatened to accessorise it unless he signs up??

We also had a client that was backleveled at 5.0 a few years ago. They gave excuses like this too, but what it really boiled down to was that they were too cheap to upgrade to the latest release!
These are not the only issues with 5.0. There were VERY REAL problems with that release, which is why IBM left it in the dust just as fast as they possibly could. Don't live in a dream world. _________________ IBM Certified MQSeries Specialist

Another tip - whoever the client is, make sure they pay in advance. If they are so cheap they won't upgrade then your invoice will be treated with suspicion. Even if not, they may decide to pay only on successful implementation and that has to be in some doubt....
(I declare a potential bias here. You couldn't pay me enough money to attempt the installation & configuration of v5.0 & this may be warping my views).
(Actually, you couldn't pay me enough money to work for a client who thought something like this was a good idea. The software is irrelevant). _________________ Honesty is the best policy.
