Aside from the fact that z/OS does not support (1) or (2), I am not entirely sure when the developer would choose (2) over (3)? |
Because of this situation, where a sending application needs to use a channel that is too small for the full message, but the receiving side still wants to use segmentation rather than grouping. Sender can use app segmentation and receiver can use qm segmentation independantly of each other. |

OK, but if the developer can influence both ends of the application and is therefore not forced to choose (2) or (3) - which is best?
I assume JMS can't do any of this - correct? |

I'll leave it to FJ to confirm this, but I *believe* that JMS can now handle *grouping*, but not segmentation in any form.
On the other hand, I thought zOS now also supported segmentation (in v7) - but maybe I'm wrong on that as well.
Absent any specific inhibitors, I don't think there's any general reason to use app segmentation over grouping, nor any general reason to use grouping over app segmentation. |

What if the destination app also using the SVRCONN channel to get the segmented messages, all the segments will be combined in the destination application or the QMgr will do that if the destinaton app uses MQGMO_COMPLETE_MSG in the GMO(get msg options)?. What I mean here is the SVRCONN can handle max of 100MB(can be increased its maxmsglength upto 100MB).
Thanks. |

Sam - If the situation is the same on both sides, then the solution is the same on both sides.
The point I was making was that both sides are independent - they don't *have* to use the same segmentation type. |
