It's not the developers who won't listen so much as there is rarely a budget or time allowed for changing existing programs that are apparently working or written by third-parties.

New developments are a different matter of course, but I've only recently arrived at my current venue so it will take time before my best practice recommendations filter through.

Those who claim that this problem is easily solved have probably been at their site for a number of years, maybe even since the dawn of MQ itself!

Stepping back from the discussion of techie things like persistence, queue attributes or defaults, the overriding issue is one of design.

A well-behaved application is sensitive to loss or duplication of data.

A well-behaved requesting app will keep track of request messages it has sent, and replies it has received. It will re-send requests for which no reply is received.

A well-behaved replying app will keep track of request messages it has received, and replies it has returned.
