What starts with inetd?

You should be using initd to start MQ, not inetd. Also, you should not be using inetd to start the MQ listener, on v5.3 you should be using runmqlsr and on v6 you should be using a real Listener object under qmgr control.

Also, "security applied denies access from my v6 machine" = "firewall".
