I guess that makes sense.....also sounds like a logical arguement for not paying taxes!!!!!

(They could put a disclaimer stating that they do not endorse the statements posted here...... )

Funny, IBM sponsors their link on google, but I doubt they endorse everything you can see on google

Brandon;

If you need to start taking donations again. Just say so.

Well, I never said I wasn't taking donations anymore. In fact, there's been a couple of donations recently, but it's basically slowed to a trickle, and doesn't come close to covering my hosting costs.

I really appreciate every penny that's been donated, but after running this site for four years, I can speak from experience that donations aren't very consistent, whereas my hosting bill comes every month

I'm testing out google adsense to see if it can generate a consistent stream of money to cover my hosting costs. Who knows, it might not work out, in which case I'll just have to go back to the drawing board...

So on a monthly basis, how much are you short?

I'd hate to see this site go away some day... (assuming your pockets are not endlessly deep... )

What are the hosting costs? If more than $99 a month then move hosting.

not if we know what's going on. if we don't know and one day mqseries.net is gone.

mqseries.net is my favorite site on the web and consider it almost my second home, I too feel it should remain free.
On the other hand I would not mind a "top gun" forum with subscription fee, where
design/architecture/coding/management/procedures stuff can be discussed in more detail.

just a thought...

Just add $5 tax on any post with URGENT!!!!!!!!! in the title. That should provide a nice income stream.

Hahaha.. Nice suggestion Peter.
But I have absolutely NO plans for making this a subscription site. People should be able to come here and ask questions free of charge.

I wanted to try the sponsorship model since it's less intrusive than advertising but I just haven't been able to generate enough interest to cover all of my costs.

And when I looked at all the advertising methods out there, adsense seemed to be the best, because:
1. I don't have to manage the content
2. It provides ads related to the keywords on the page (so no viagra ads!)
3. The ads are 100% text. NO images. That's a big gripe of mine.

So hopefully I don't anger anyone in the process, and hopefully this will provide a means to keep MQSeries.net running forever

Do you get paid by how many times the ads get clicked?

I was hoping nobody would say that.
PLEASE... PLEASE... (for more emphasis) PLEASE! DO NOT CLICK ON THESE ADS JUST TO CLICK ON THEM OR OUT OF CONCERN FOR THE SITE

Only click on them if you're really interested in what they are advertising.
Google is watching the click patterns and believe me, they'll notice if people are just clicking on the ads. You won't get in trouble, but I will... I do not want to get booted from their program. So please, treat these ads like any other ads you encounter on the net...

(And I'm sure Hari was joking, but someone might take it seriously, so I just wanna make it clear to everyone...)
