Hello, All of a sudden I am getting an error AMQ9218 on both of my queue managers. The listeners are stopped and I cant get them going again. They are on different ports. I tried a netstat -a command which was recommend to see assigned port and the two I am using didnt show up. All seemed fine before I rebooted the machine(which I have done in the past). I have search the boards and found one post that mentioned something about losing port numbers. I am running windows XP pro with mq 5.3 with csd06 installed for almost 9 months. Is this a know problem with MQ and if so, what do I do to fix the problem and get the listeners started again. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated

For CSD06 there is an APAR out as you will lose the port number if it is not applied. If possible move to CSD09.

| Okay I installed the CSD09 and I still get the same errors. Any suggestions? |

Stop the QM and look in TaskManager. If you still got an orphaned runmqlsr exe running, kill it.
Then start the QM. You should be good to go.

And remember you will need to look at the MQ Services and make sure the ports are set before you start the listeners again.

| I think the version I have of mq is hosed somehow.. I tried what you guys suggested and still the error. When I start the listener it tells me it could not start with a return code of 20 along with AMQ4128 in parethesis. I even created a new queue manger on a totally separate port and still the listener would not start and gave the same error code. Since I only have the two queue mangers on the machine to teach myself this stuff it might be just as easy to uninstall and install again.. Any other suggestions? |

run the mqver command to verify that CSD09 is on succesfuly....and then reboot...then try one mo' time.

and you have done a cold restart since you installed CSD09?

OK, so at this point if you verify that the Listeners are going to each start on 2 different ports, you stop your QMs, and you verify that there are no orphaned runmqlsr exe, and you verify with netstat -a that nothing else is listening on those ports....and you still got a problem........
I would reinstall at that point, apply csd09 before you do anything and try again.
If still a problem, call IBM.
XP Pro SP1, right? SP2 is not officially supported.

It is XP pro service pack 1.. There were no orphaned runmqlsr(sp?) running in task manager. I made sure the ports were different on each QM stopped them, started them again and still the problem. At this point I am going to chalk it up to something got hosed somewhere and try again. I want to thank you for your help and quick responses...

| I want thank those who responded to my post. I found the problem and I am actually a bit embarrassed to post it. I added a firewall to my system a while back and had never changed anything with MQ since. Well the other day I created a cluster and when the listener program tried to access the net I blocked it. I never rebooted the machine and when I did the listener program tried to access the net though tcp and was denied and thus giving me an error.. I just happen to check things today and allowed access and behold the listener started. Like I said, embarrassing. Thanks again for all you help.. |

There is no need to feel embarrassed. Your experience will is sure to be of value to someone else in the future. I am glad that you have got the problem solved and even happier that you shared the answer.....many don't.
