Can you post some sample code for us?
I know how tight SLA can get. Some of our screens in online application have 3 seconds SLA!! This involves midtier-Broker-CICS processing.

I wish we had the time that much time! We have to send an message from the mainframe QM to a HUB QM to a Gateway QM to the WMQI QMs that house the request flows back to the Gateway QM to the Solaris QMs that process the requests, and then every thing in reverse for the reply. The roundtrip can't take any more than 2 seconds. And the Solaris app normally eats a third to half of that 2 seconds. Messages are 30 to 50K in size, and WMQI must map from Cobol to XML Accord and back.

We are attempting to replace a mainframe application (MDP) with the WMQI and the expectation is to either equal or improve the performance. So 2 seconds is a long time especially for online applications.

We are now attempting to reduce the number of mappings by setting the repeat count to teh most likely occurance rather than worst case scenario. We will cater for the worst case (x300) by putting a filter in the flow.

Hopefully version 5 will improve the rate at which it parses large messages....till then.. we will look at the hardware specs

With my Einstein hat on, there is no such thing as an absolute acceptable response time, it is all relative to the observer. The typical scenario is that a broker gets inserted into the mix and the business unit wants to see next to no response time degradation. Not always easy.

Supportpac IP04 is being replaced with our latest 'WBIMB: Designing for Performance' customer presentation. I'll post again when it is live.
