A managed file transfer solution, like FTE, that can put files in a place where IIB can read them is a more manageable solution than bespoke code.

I think the OP was asking if he could use FTE instead of WMB/IIB.

If you can use FTE to put the files where WMB/IIB can see them then (logically) you could FTP them to the WMB/IIB server. At this point the trigger message loses half it's value as the path to the file becomes redundant information, and the value of the solution comes into question.

But the point here is that the OP doesn't know where the files are, and relies on this trigger message to provide the path. AFAIK the FTE agent can't be dynamically set like a FileRead node to pick up from a progamatically provided location without a lot of dancing, and hence my assertion it's not usable by the OP in his use case.

I thought you could send an XMl message to FTE?

I've been wrong. There are documented instances of that happening.

But assuming this to be the case, you'd still need WMB/IIB/something to reformat the trigger message into the "FTE format". You couldn't (as the OP was hoping) use FTE instead of WMB.
