				Hello,

       1. May I know how to check whether any application is using client attachment on z/OS? I am doing an upgrade from V6 to V701 and JMS7017 Client Attachment feature is not being ordered so customer is questioning me whether do they need this feature.

       2. I read WMQ Client V7.0, chapter 1, it seems to me MQ client is not applicable in z/OS. However, my installation team was telling me that we had JMS5317 & JMS6007 installed in my customer site for WMQ V531 and V600 respectively.

           Pls advise urgently. Thank you.

z/OS cannot be a client. z/OS can have clients attached to it.

Nothing is urgent here, we are not your support service. If you want to raise an IBM PMR with a high severity problem they will treat it as urgent.

You can display active server connection channels (used by clients attached to z/OS) on the MQ ISPF inteface, or using tools like MO71, MQ explorer, or via MQSC commands.

Read the documentation that IBM have spent so much time writing! |

In addition, you customer should know if he needs that feature (any applications connecting as clients) _________________ Regards, Butcher |

As a last resort, you can look in the Channel Initiator log for a given queue manager for the following:

	| Code: |

	| +CSQX011I (QMGR CSQXGIP Client attachment feature available |

Where QMGR is your queue manager name.

I believe (and I'm sure that someone will tell me if not) that the CAF is not a free bolt-on. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

Hence the OP mentioning that his client was not ordering it. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

The inference I took was that the customer did not know whether they needed it because they don't necessarily know they are using it...

It wouldn't be the first time that bean counters decided something on cost grounds without first consulting the techies as to whether it was needed or not

EDIT: Finally found the article I was looking for that illustrates my above point HERE. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

A limited CAF is supplied free with z/OS MQ V7.0 and later. It allows a limited number of client connections from MQ Explorer. _________________ Glenn |
