Do you mean MaxChannels or MaxActiveChannels ?

You mean channel connections? Did you look in the MQ System Administration Guide ?

You can also check the ulimit -a
I think, for each O.S. there is a limit of no. of connections over a set of queue managers. I mean to say total count.
Its important.
