By checking the log file in the path Programfiles/IBM/Websphere MQ/log/QMGR/actove/S0000000.LOG ; we found that details r available for present date and previous date were overwritten. |
After everything that's been said in this thread, I can't believe you're actually looking in the log files for this information! There is no guarantee what you're looking for is there, if the "lost" transactions are the result of a failed transaction odds are they won't be there (see earlier), no guarantee it will tell you what you need to know and it is absolutely the wrong way to solve your issue.

I need to make sure that previous 3 days logs should be avavilable at any given time. |
This is impossible without making the logs utterly huge. This leaves you with the problem of finding the right log file. It also doesn't solve the basic issue that these are audit logs, not transactional logs.

Can I increase the Log size in the QM properties for 3-4 days transaction detail log???? |
Yes. How you calculate that value will be an interesting issue, given that the file size is absolute not time based.
You have the wrong idea about finding your problem. But after 23 posts on the subject, I imagine a 24th won't change your mind. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

hi...
i did understand wht u said; but the reason here is that the blame for the missing messages has come upon MQ stating that the messages have moved from App A to MQ and from MQ only some have moved to App B. so messages are missing in MQ.
For proving it wrong that messages r not missing in MQ i need to make sure that i have a proof of the logs created for the last 3 days...... |

If you'd understood what's being said you'd realise the logs can't be used to prove that.
I give in. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Not with the queue manager logs, no. That's what we've been saying for 2 dozen posts. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

If you think MQ lost your messages raise a PMR.
MQ doesn't lose messages....bad MQ application design and/or coding loses messages.
The only way MQ will 'lose' messages is if they are non-persistent and someone restarts the queue manager. A queue manager restart will be in the regular logs. If you go snooping around in the MQ logs you are destined for a world of hurt.
Having said that if you need to know the format of the MQ logs then IBM is probably the only place that you will get that information from....and I dare bet they won't tell you otherwise they would have published it already. |

It's been said before, and I'll say it again: Have them prove, by use of application journalling, that they have put n messages into a queue manager, with persistency, expiry etc. that was set clearly reported, and CC and RC codes.
Then, if messages are still 'lost', you can look to the receiving applications doing the same, just in case they are discarding messages when they hit problems (been there, seen that).
If management are reluctant to allow time and expenditure by the developers on this problem, point them at this thread... _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |
