Those are some interesting statistics... Thanks for compiling them!
It's not all too suprising though, that so many users have never posted once. Just think of all the people who pass through and never even sign up. If you find your way to this site because you're looking for an answer to a specific question, and the search tool on this site (or google) gives you the answer you're looking for, at no point did you need to become a member. The site gets about 1200 unique visitors each day, though I never have tried to figure out how many of those 1200 are actual members.
And the fact that a few people have made so many posts just speaks to how valuable they are for a site like this. Without them, we wouldn't even be having this conversation, because this site would be a graveyard! _________________ Brandon Duncan

I confess, I am addicted to this site, too. It's a rare work day when I don't check the forum to see what's new on the MQ boards. |
For me, it's a rare work day, holiday, spare minute or sleepless night i'm not here browsing the forums...

I would indeed imagine there are many people browsing the site without registering, but that's not what I meant - I meant there are 3300 registered users, i.e members with 0 posts! |

Hopsala,
That is indeed what I fear when I post! Before I post a question, you will find me searching the forums and searching the manuals like a madwoman. How many different ways can a person search, for example, on 'kernel parameters for Solaris 10'? I thought up about a dozen.
Your post caused much LOL in my cubicle.

I think that we have some impressive statistics here. As always there are a few people who do the majority of the work, a slightly larger population who do a large part of the work, many along for the ride and some who cling like leaches.
Either way, this site has done much to promote MQ awareness and education. I have found this site to be helpful at times and in turn have been able to help others from my own experiences. I think it is great, this not being an "IBM" owned site, that users can have the opportunity to be able to get feedback from actual IBM folks. It speaks well (for IBM developers & support) when MQ developers read and contribute to the site on a regular basis.
Just wish I could visit, read, and post more often myself. |

Btw, another interesting statistical figure is the highest posted forum by far: "WMQI (MQSI) Support forum" with 30711 (!) posts, and a distant second "General MQSeries Support" with only 17168 posts.
Same thing with Jeff (6000+)
The second poster is kirani (3710+). 1 out 16 is Jeff's post. Moreover, they don't visit workflow forum |
.
Then who is no. 3? Is that you. |

In fact, it is Vennela.
There is a "Top Ten Posters" sort option in the Memberlist view. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Actually, that's really good to hear! I wish everyone behaved like that, instead of posting such silly questions, like this fine example:
An anonymous newbie wrote: |
when i am using the amqsput command to insert into the queue i am getting the error as
MQCONN ended with reason code 2059
how am i to overcome this error???please help |
And they just keep coming back! I think about 1 in every 3 posts is something silly like this or worse - at least this guy knew how to spell...
Anyway, was happy to re-discover that you can make someone laugh 10,000 miles away |

Just realised something... given most origins of those type of questions...
Is that what it means to work for a CMM level 5 certified company? (read: don't think for yourself, someone else invented the wheel already...)

oh yeah one of the best benefits of MQSeries.net, many giggles a day and someone at the other end of the room thinks "why is this guy laughing???..."
http://www.mqseries.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=12657 for some more ROTFLMAO stuff... _________________ Michael

Good point, although if you ask me there are about 2 companies in the world that are truely CMM 5, probably 80% are levels 1 and 2. Keep in mind that the model says that although individually each person is stupid, as a group they inter-complement...?
One thing I do know is, that there's a huge difference between people working for big companies and small ones (statistically, i'm not pointing any fingers ). There is something about large companies - the bureaucracy, the management difficulties, the political wars - that causes professionals to turn to other workplaces. I think it's safe to say, that currently a very large portion of the best people in the market work for startup and semi-startup companies, or as semi-independant consultants.
Anyway, my favourite was "What's a message like you doing in a queue like this?" - i'll keep that in mind for the next time a message arrives to a dead letter queue unexpectedly |
