This scenario violates best practices;

Then why encourage it? Which is better? To teach a man to fish by jumping in the rapids and feeling around, or pointing him at the hardware store with their nice collection of rods and reels?

but there are corpses of best practices littering all our collective floors. After all these years, and all these miles, someone out there is still testing in production, for example.

And there's no reason for anyone else to repeat other people's mistakes.

There's a balance-point in what we do. How much is it worth to absolutely adhere to best practices? The client was happy with the spare MD field solution. It met their need. Would I rather have done it differently? Probably.

I'm not an absolutist. Best practices are excellent guidelines. When necessary, and I believe this instance might qualify, a violation like this is a misdemeanor.

Did you properly educate the client on the risks this entailed?

If so, who am I to judge?

Is there a way to specify the user defined properties as part of MQMD header?

The simple answer to the original post is yes. The complicated answer is either no or it depends.

The simple answer to the original post is NO.

The complicated answer is "You can do it, if you really know what you're doing".
And the more general answer is, if you go against the grain, you may live to regret it.
