All:
Anybody interested in beta testing a new Java application that I have written?
The MQ Visual Edit beta v0.1 application allows the user to view, edit, insert and delete messages from a queue of a MQSeries queue manager. MQ Visual Edit presents the data in an easy to use format similar to a database utility or spreadsheet program.
MQ Visual Edit can run on any platform that supports Java v1.3. This includes: AIX, HP-UX, Linux, OS/2 Warp, Sun Solaris, and Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000. MQ Visual Edit is able to connect to local queue managers (residing on the same box) or to any remote queue manager(s).
The remote queue managers can be on any platform that supports distributed queuing including: AIX, HP-UX, Linux, OS/2 Warp, OS/390 (MVS), OS/400, Sun Solaris, and Windows NT/2000.

Update:
There have been some issues with users connecting locally (binding mode) using MQ Visual Edit.
Binding mode refers to connecting to a local queue manager WITHOUT specifying Channel Name, Hostname and Port #.
If you want to connect to a local queue manager using binding mode then the following 2 items are required:
1. IBM's MQSeries "MA88" SupportPac MUST be installed on the box where you are running MQ Visual Edit.
2. The following jar files MUST be in your classpath (from MA88) on the box where you are running MQ Visual Edit:
com.ibm.mq.jar
com.ibm.mq.iiop.jar
com.ibm.mqbind.jar
This should resolve the issue of MQ Visual Edit not connecting (not responding).

My hosting company had several servers crash Friday night and everything is starting to come back online.
But I still don't have access to my new site yet. I don't know if they have a backup of my web pages and downloads or if I have to upload everything again. 
So far, I am not very pleased with the situation (seems to be minimal support on the weekend - if any). Hopefully, it will be resolved soon.

If you would like, I can host the file on my servers, and make it available through the software repository. You would of course be able to post direct links to it as well...

Ok, I now have access again, so I have started uploading the files again (the html pages and MQ Visual Edit were the first  ). I will finish it tonight.
Brandon, putting it in the Software Repository sounds good. Just copy the MQ Visual Edit comments from the www.capitalware.biz/beta.html page.

Hi,
Most of the stuff is back. Rest will be there shortly (I am currently ftp-ing the remaining stuff tonight.).
I got a "we're very sorry email" from my hosting company. Basically, some technician was adding a third drive to the system and made a mess. The system was setup to boot from the second drive (not the primary) and the technician got confused as to which drive was the new one and formatted the wrong drive. Oops. 
At least now they promise to do regular backups.

That's why I host this site myself. It's some extra effort (pain) but at least I can rest easy at night knowing my backups are being made

I just installed the MQVisual Edit V0.1 Beta (from Software Repository) on my W2K box (SP2).
I'm using WMQ 5.2.1 with the latest MA88 SP (April 2002)
My ClassPath looks like:

But... When I run MQVE.jar, I'm able to open queue (File > Open Queue), Add my queues manager (already running and installed),
check 'distributed', (because running on W2K),
and define nothing in 'Remote Parameters'.
If I try the 'test' button, nothing happens even a failure neither a 'OK'. If I continue trying to access to a local queue, nothing appears.
So, do you have any idea about what I could miss. Any help appreciated. |

I believe it has to do with the version differences in MA88. I included mq.jar file from August 2001 but you are using April 2002 (connector.jar is new!!).
In the Queue Manager Access Profile Setup window, try specifying all 4 parameters for the local queue manager.

Port# = 1414 |
Please verify the correct port # that your listener is listening on.
I am almost ready to release beta v0.2 and it will include the mq.jar file from April 2002. Although, that may cause difficulties with people using the older MA88 SupportPac. Hummmm....

You were right. The trouble was coming from the latest version of MA88. So now, defining the channel makes it work.

Hi,
When I tried to connect to my local queue manager (distributed and
Qmanager name) I am getting 2059.
When I use the remote parameters also, I got the same result.
Also another User interface observation:
1. I mistakenly pasted a large text in the IP/ Hostname box. Deleting
the text was painful.

Your first question refers to using binding mode. You MUST have SupportPac MA88 installed (with the CLASSPATH updated).
But generally speakly speaking, 2059 refers to the queue manager being down. So, please verify that it is started.
When you were connecting via client mode, was the listener running? or did you specify the correct port? The "Set Defaults" button is just a template, it does NOT mean that the the program scanned your system for the correct value. You will need to verify the port #.
There are 2 ways to get around accidental pasting of info: (1) Press the Shift and End keys together then press the Del key or click the Cancel button.
