Hi,

in my WPS-course the teacher told us not to use inline tasks because they are deprecated and not part of the BPEL-standard.

Nothing of this is mentioned in the information center, ...
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/dmndhelp/v6r1mx/topic/com.ibm.websphere.bpc.610.doc/doc/bpc/cstandaloneinline.html

Is there a best practice on this topic? Can someone give advice daily developing?

Thanks!

I believe it is true that inline Human Tasks are not yet part of the BPEL standard, however, in most cases I would always use an inline Human Task over a stand-alone human task.

In WPS there is currently no life-cycle management of stand-alone human tasks, and for this reason alone, I think it is a best practice to use the in-line task. I am not saying that you should never use stand-alone, just to prefer in-line.

As to inline Human tasks being deprecated, I think that is totally incorrect.

The BPEL4People specification will enable standards based inline human tasks.

http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/webservices/library/specification/ws-bpel4people/

This is not implemented in process server yet though.

Here is a document outlining the differences between inline and standalone tasks using the current versions of process server:

http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27006889&aid=1

For me, the big advantage of inline tasks is that they are connected to the process instance, through the API or BPC explorer you can see that a process instance is waiting on a human task.

A standalone task is totally seperate, the process will be waiting on an invoke, however you do not know what is sitting behind that invoke - it could be a human task or any other kind of service invocation.
