I'm sure people from the various vendors would be more than happy to tell you about their products

I've made a few posts in the past about my various feelings about the monitoring products out there, you can look in this forum or use the search tool to read them.

You can also ask your question directly to the folks at Reconda, who sponsor a forum here:

Hope this gets you started!

BMC and Candle are front-runners.

BMC has a simpler architecture and is less expensive.

Candle is a more comprehensive product.

Appwatch from Reconda Inc is also good. It's a web Based thin client System . Works even on very very low bandwidths.

Good and easy for Administrator.

Amar,
If you are having trouble with the Reconda website, or their product, you should ask the question in the Reconda-sponsored forum, since their employees moderate this forum and will be glad to help you. Here is the link:

I just found this website, very cool.

First, I will say that I have been involved with MQ for almost 5 years now from an administrator type role. I have used Candle Command Center and contact admin monitoring products in large distributed and mainframe production environments.

Here's the skinny(or my take ):

-CCC is old architecture, mainframe-centric. It is designed as an ESM framework. If you do not have CCC and just want to monitor MQ, this is not cost-effective since CCC framework can cost $1M to start with. The situations are difficult to create and administer. Client consoles require large overhead. Limited functionality. Didn't see anything specific for MQSI. Last time I used CCC there were no administrative tools but I believe that has been added.

-BMC is based on an older version of contact admin software that was licensed to Boole & Babbage before BMC bought them out. I installed and evaluated this product(MQ Operator and MQ KM for patrol). What I found was a difficult installation process that required an on-site SE to assist in getting it to work. It was a typical example of bloated software. A lot of the functionality was unnecessary. Setting up the alerts was not easy either. I didn't see any tools for MQSI. If you are an organization that already has BMC Patrol as an ESM, then it makes sense to use the MQ Operator and KM's for MQ. You will get good overall control, but there are some things to be desired. Cost-wise, it is cheaper than Candle but much more expensive than contact admin

-contact admin is my own preference. As a user for 2 years I can tell you from experience that this product gets the job done in regards to MQ Series administration and monitoring. MQControl allows total control of your MQ Environment, doesnt matter if it's mainframe or distributed, it all has the same look and feel. Contact Admin technology allows you to easily create views for different parts of your organization. You can have an IT view, a managers view, etc.. and they only see what is important to them. These views can be extended to a web page since they are XML so there is no special software to install for clients. As long as they have a web browser, they can see their view. contact admin has in-depth monitoring "experts" for MQ Series and also MQSI... and to take that even further, they have experts for Workflow, DB2 logs, Websphere AS, Weblogic AS, JMX, Orbix, NT and Unix OS experts and a couple others I probably forgot. The one thing that I liked about Contact Admin was that you could extend it outside of just the middleware and could actually do end to end business process monitoring. Ok, enough.. you see I like this one best! Cost-wise, contact admin is the most reasonable of all these and best of all it is out of the box. ROI is very good, we saw an ROI within one year of buying contact admin.

Which version of contact admin are you using? I evaluated MQControl 3.6 a while back and found it buggy and painful to use (although cheap). A number of people seem to think it's pretty good, so I'm just wondering if I was somehow evaluating an old version, or maybe I just set my sights too high?

we used 3.5 and then when the 3.6 upgrade came out we migrated to that. can't think of any bugs. normally anything that was wrong was from something we did wrong on our end. we've been using it in production for 2 years now and haven't had any significant problems.
