HI ,

I am new to Z OS and need help to determine the size of the PAGE SET to be used for the Messages which would flow via the z/os SYSTEM .

On the z/os environment , there would be 2 Local queues

Q1

10 k Messages and messages / day = 20000

Q2

30 k Messages and messages / day = 20000

Requirement is that there should be facility on the z/os SIDE that it should be able to keep 20000 + 20000 ..say 50000 MESSAGES on these queues for 2 days (SO 1 lakh messages CAPACITY) . (Maximum outage of the application getting messages from these queues).

My z/os team has shown this formula and he says that the app owners should calculate the RECORD( ) size based on the message size etc .

DEFINE CLUSTER
(NAME(xxxx.xxxx.PSID01)
RECORDS(10000 500)
LINEAR
VOLUMES(*)
SHAREOPTIONS(2 3) )
DATA
(NAME(xxxx.xxxx.PSID01.DATA)

The MQ manual never says what this record is and what value to fit in if i need 50000 / day to be stored for 2 days ....1 lakh messages capacity ( 30 k MESSAGE SIZE) .

could anyone help me calculate the RECORD figures .

Some possibilities:
  1. lakh, phonetic spelling for lack i.e. missing something or not having enough of...
  2. ancient unit of measure nearly unknown to the western world although it originated well beyond the FarWest.... so far in fact that it became known as the Far East??
  3. Possible name of an either existing or extinct indian (from India) currency
If you find something in Webster about it let us know...

Hi ,

1 LAKH = 50000 + 50000 = 1,00,000.

In india Lakh is a common word . I did not realise that it is not used in West .

So i have about 1,00,000 (1 lakh ) messages .
Please guide .

the concepts and planning guide has a formula to calculate the pages in the page dataset depending on the message size.

for a linear dataset a record = 4k = 1 page in the page dataset
