Distributed Linux box starts message chain with 300 ticks in the MQ message expiry header. MQ forwards through WBIMQ hub to z/OS MQ. Message hits the OTMA bridge.

Question:
What is the default behavior of the expiry time of the message in the OTMA bridge once IMS returns a reply - is the same message expiry carried over of is a new (maybe unlimited message timeout time) assigned ? Is it possible to force the OTMA bridge to keep the same message expiration value on the reply message ?

Thanks for a quick reply and any links to the IBM doc that explains this.

Regards,
Bob

Isn't the reply message built and PUTted by your IMS application. In which case, it has full control over what it specifies.

Cheers,

When I spoke with the team doing the IMS transaction - all they get is the application data - I think the OTMA bridge strips of the MQ related headers and justs uses the IMS tran code + LLZZ + app data.

What I am trying to figure out, (without spending a huge amount of time chasing down the answer), is what is the default behavior of the OTMA bridge with the original message expiry ticks ? Does it generate a completely new MQ message on it's reply back from IMS to the distributed system - or is it smart enough to keep the expiry timeout value of the original request alive.

Extra points if someone can point me to a URL where I can find the documentation about how the OTMA bridge internals are explained.

(I found this OLD share PDF - but I don't think it's current)
http://shareweb.share.org/proceedings/sh96/data/S1176.PDF

Thanks!

Up until 5.3, the bridge forced an unlimited Expiry on the reply message, regardless of what the request message was.

This was fixed in MQ 5.3.1 on z/OS. It requires the sending application to set a flag in the IIH header asking the bridge to respect the request message's Expiry. I assume it stayed fixed in 6.0.

Peter - mega thank yous for the quick reply.

By any chance, do you happen to know the name of the IIH header flag ?

Regards,
Bob
