technically its not possible to migrate from 5.1 to 7.0v as MQ version 7.0 co exists with 5.3 or 6.0 so we will have to first migrate to 5.3 or version 6.0

and according to management it will take a lot of manpower and time, so how can i convince them, i have all ready told them that MQ is at high risk i havn't learned many things like how to enable trace on MQ and some other things, and i realy want to,

can u tell me where can i get books for these topics, and guide me how to implement these things.

a) It would be a big jump to go from 5.1 to 7, but I don't see where you get "not possible" from

b) No version of WMQ co-exists with any earlier version

I read it in book its written that we can migrate to MQ version 7.0 from 5.3 or 6.0.

and I have just got some work that we need to make some fresh boxes of MQ so what plan i can put forward. MQ version 7 is the best with solaris or Linux

ok.

ok.

A well-written migration plan. A cost-benefit analysis.

Search the system admin manual for the trace command. Search here for 'trace'.

Above all, learn how to search using google.

Go to google. Search for mq+library+v6. For me, this was the first hit: http://www-01.ibm.com/software/integration/wmq/library/library51.html

When you quote some authority like this, post the exact url and the text that supports your argument.

One (of the many) ongoing challenges is to convince management that software should be managed like cars or trucks. Software requires periodic maintenance, and less frequently, replacement.

That's because when the book was written versions earlier than 5.3 were out of support and hence IBM never tested migration from 5.1 -> 7.0. Given that your management have been happy running out of support for years, an unsupported migration shouldn't bother them!

You can mitigate any risk by using MS03 to recreate the objects on a v7 queue manager rather than migrating directly. You'll still need a plan to review, revise and otherwise adjust your set up to allow for v7.

Plan to do a clean install of v7 as per the documentation.

It's the only version that won't leave you in a shallower version of the same **** you're standing in now.

Migration does NOT mean copying the filesystem; rather, it means installing WMQ software from the distribution media in an o/s without MQ - a clean install.

Go to Google. Search for IBM+ms03.

Learn how to search on you own.

Support pac not a fix pac.

As my most worthy associate says, google is a wonderful tool. One which you should have encountered with all this reading you've been doing.

And, in answer to your next questions:

Download instructions are included (in the SupportPac).

Installation instructions are included.

Operation instructions are included.

We can't tell if or how you need to enable ssl.

Why would you want to enable trace?

Are you simply picking terms out of thin air to fish for advice?
