That's what I thought. I am having a problem setting it through PATROL. I just opened up yet another issue with them. It works fine setting it directly through MQ.

Thanks again, Peter!

Blobtastic,
The removal of the expired messages is done on the GET operation. Though this sounded like and extra work, and you need additional resources to do this, I think this is fairly minimal.

For instance, if the messages from the third party A arrive on Q1, and you don't normally service messages from A, but you still service Q1, then the work here is negligible. Given that your GET on Q1 is indiscriminate, then the expired messages from A, would have been removed inintentionally by your GET operation while GETting the ineterested messages. Isn't it so?

So the expired messages from A was removed from Q1, by your application's GET operation on interested messages, as long as you're not doing discriminate GET.

kman,

I think I understand what you are saying (!) but it doesn't really help - we don't do any MQGET that I know of on these queues - the third party app writes message to them, but its hard to determine why- prwesumable some sort of logging or tracking mechanism.

I think I'll need to look at other ways of clearing them down

many thanks
