Do you need to connect the program to a local MQ queue manager, or to a remote MQ queue manager that is running on another system?
Do you know much about MQ?

IBM MQ on IBM i (aka AS/400) comes with a number of samples for you to review. These samples come in a variety of languages. You don't say which language your program is written in.
  • For RPG (ILE) samples, the source can be found in QMQMSAMP/QRPGLESRC (read more here).
  • For COBOL samples, the source can be found in QMQMSAMP/QCBLLESRC (read more here).
  • For C language samples, the source can be found in QMQMSAMP/QCSRC (read more in the same link as COBOL above).
In the subject line of your question you say that you need to connect to a remote queue manager. Since IBM MQ V8, client connectivity from the IBM i platform out to another queue manager has been available. The following Knowledge Center links may be useful reading for you.Let us know if you have more questions once you have read about it and tried it out.

Cheers,
Morag

P.S. Our MQ training (see link below) includes IBM i platform, so if you need to get up to speed with MQ for this project, take a look.
