2 issues probably related as they both involve the chinit on a 390. MQ is 5.3 and OS is MVS 2.10. Maintenance on 390/MVS & MQ is current. System ran for roughly 2 years without a problem then started seeing the following. No record of what may have changed on the system other than maintenance releases. Started with MQ 5.2 then went to 5.3. Problems didn't appear for some time after going to 5.3. Don't think it's 5.3.
Problem 1 - periodically the chinit goes down and with it the channels. There is a system error reported, but don't have it handy to include here. The 390-admin guys have researched it (error) to no avail.
Problem 2 - periodically when a comm error occurs on the network causing a sender channel to go down, the receiver on the 390 keeps running. If you stop it, reset it, and restart it, it goes back to a running state even though the sender is stopped. To clear this I have to stop and restart the chinit on the 390. Anyone seen this before?

Hi

Problem 1 is very hard to comment on!

Problem 2 is normal. You should read a little about the Adoptmca feature. Maybe you also should look at the keep-alive interval - presuming it's a TCP/IP channel.

This maybe a red herring but....the CHIN didn't timeout on CPU time did it?

The way the JCL is shipped for the CHIN it will default on its CPU to to the installtion standard. Make sure you have TIME=1440 of TIME=NOLIMIT on the EXEC PGM=CSQXJST

It bit us once.

Long overdue update on these issues.
Problem 2 was corrected with Kevins Red Herring - TIME=1440 of TIME=NOLIMIT on the EXEC PGM=CSQXJST
Have not had a problem with CHINIT going down since.

Problem 1 - I haven't tried the adoptnewmca yet as I was waiting to see if the problem occurred again after making the changes to CSQXJST. Well, it did today, so now I'm going to try the adoptnewmca.
