Hi All,
Our client has decided to upgrade the mainframe from OS/390 to z/OS. I am just wondering is there any specific / customised changes that I need to do for MQ to work on z/OS as it was working on Os/390. Right now MQ is at 2.1 level.
Also we are planning to upgrade MQ to 5.3 level. Is it a good idea to upgrade both OS and MQ levels at the same time (rather together). Or its good to upgrade first the OS level and then make sure that MQ works fine on z/OS at 2.1 level and then upgrade MQ to 5.3 level.
Please let me know you expert adivse on how to go for it and is there any docs (other than IBM manuals) or info where i can do this upgrade with no issues.
We didn't need to make any changes to MQ when we went from OS/390 to z/OS...having said that we were already on 5.2 at the time.
My own preference would be to upgrade MQ first (while still on OS/390) if only because 5.3 has more chance of working under z/OS than 2.1. I am not saying 2.1 won't work, only that I know for sure 5.3 does.
I know MQ 2.1 will work on z/OS 1.4 We used it for a little while before we got MQ 5.3.
I know sometimes (I guess depending on what IBM thinks your current configuration is) that the new MQ HLQ.SCSQxxxx datasets will come packed with the OS. You want to check w/ your MVS Sys Prog and see if the new version is packaged.
Depending on if you Sys Prog unloads those datasets there is a chance he could ver write your 2.1 datasets if he/she unloads with same DSN.
IE: MQ 2.1 SY.MQM.V21.SCSQxxxx and he/she unloaded the 5.3 packaged to SY.MQM.V21.SCSQxxx.
