Roger,
I must be doing something wrong...
I downloaded the evaluation copy, installed on Windows, runs fine.
Read the manual (partly..  ) and found it can run on any platform.
I ftped the *jar and *sh files to Solaris.
did "who am i" to find the display setting,
set it on my other terminal using export DISPLAY=...
Visual edit spits out some error messages about fonts:

and then comes up with the GUI, next a warning pops up:
Your trial has ended, thank you for trying MQ Visual Edit...
but i never got to try it...

Hi,
Those messages are from the JVM and I can't do anything about it.
Basically, that particular occurances of the "Your trial has ended" message is because you were a bad boy. 
Copy the ENTIRE MQ Visual Edit package to your Unix box and it will work. I check for a variety of things when MQ Visual Edit starts up. MQ Visual Edit looks for the docs, jar files, etc... and if it doesn't find them, it does not start. 
The easiest solution is to download the mqve.zip file to your Solaris box and unzip it on the box. Then it will work just fine.
