Hi MQ Gurus,

I have a question related with the IBM MQ for IBM i, currently we are using IBM MQ 7.1.0.7 with IBM V7R3. Now our customer want to upgrade the IBM i to V7R4.

The question is there our MQ need to be upgrade? or can be still running with current version. I already search for the information system requirement or supported version MQ for IBM V7R4 but cannot get the information.

Thank you in advance for the support and confirmation.

Regards,
Yosh

Wow! You do realize that IBM MQ (aka WebSphere MQ) v7.1 went out of support on April 30, 2017.

You definitely need to upgrade IBM MQ to a current release.

Hi Roger,

Yes for now they still prefer not upgrade because the surrounding system is not supported for the new MQ version. That's why they prefer to still use MQ 7.1, but because the Iseries system will to be upgrade to version V7R4, is it still compatible with MQ 7.1?

Thanks

Yosh

According to System Requirements for WebSphere MQ V7.1 - IBM i section

IBM i Platform listing of supported OS
  • IBM i 6.1 POWER System and future OS fix packs
  • IBM i 7.1 POWER System and future OS fix packs
  • IBM i 7.2 POWER System and future OS fix packs - WMQ 7.1.0.4 or higher is required
  • IBM i 7.3 POWER System and future OS fix packs - WMQ 7.1.0.7 or higher is required

There is no mention of IBM i 7.4. This is not a surprise given how long MQ V7.1 has been out of service. You will need to upgrade MQ.

Cheers,
Morag
