Hello, experts

I plan to issue the following in a busy clustered env:

ALTER QL(XXX) DESCR('aa')
ALTER QR(XXX) DESCR('aa')

Both QL and QR are clustered, and busy doing message throughput.

Is it going to impact MQ performance somehow?

Thank you.

Song

This will cause a cluster internal message to be sent from the queue manager when you issue each of the 2 x ALTER commands to each of your full repositories. I expect you have two full repositories, so that's four messages so far.

Each full repository will then send a cluster internal message to each of the partial repositories that have previously been given the definitions of these queues. Only you can count how many this will be, but only two messages at most to each partial.

The change you are making does not appear to be making any material difference to the cluster, so I would not expect any other impact apart from the above messages which will not be large messages either.

Hope that helps,
Cheers,
Morag

However, on a very large cluster, with nearly saturated servers and network, cluster administrative messages may cause your SLA’s to be exceeded. If possible, schedule cluster commands to a less/least busy time.
