I'm trying to find out if I can send messages from a CICS app to an external MQ server.
The only examples I've seen is where a client (java or com) sends messages to a MQ server that either runs on the mainframe or is consumed by a CICS app.
In this case, I want the CICS app to put a message on a external MQ server.
Is this possible? Can MQ be installed as a client-only under OS/390, as you can do in Unix or Windows?
There is no native MQ client for OS/390. A CICS program using MQI calls needs a local MQ server installation.
Whether the Java client can be run under OS/390 is some way is an interesting idea.
You would normally have to install MQ Server on the local OS/390 platform, however you could use the CICS inter-system features to connect your CICS application to another CICS region on another OS/390 that does have MQ available (if you have one).
