Hi All ,

My understanding is - in a cluster the full repository should be in a higher version of MQ and partial repositories can be in lower evrsions but recommended to have the same version.

My question is what is the impact of having 8.x version of Full repo and one qm with verison 9.1 joins to that cluster .

how to analyse this impact , i have tested this configuration in one of my virtual environments and its working ok ,but wanted to understand about the impact .

Thanks in advance ,

The problem that arises is that attributes that are part of the newer version are discarded by the older full repository. So long as you are not trying to use those attributes, things will work.

A quick scan of my summary blog posts for all the attributes in 90x and 91x releases of MQ
suggests that there are no new attributes in the releases newer than V8 that sent round the cluster. There are some new values on existing attributes, so take care not to use those, specifically those in SSLCIPH.

You will need to be careful when you get to the point of upgrading the full repository to the newer version so that you can start using the new attributes. Make sure the full repository is at the version that will recognise the attributes and then change those attributes so that they are sent to the full repository as updated definitions so that they can be passed around the cluster.

Remember you can always look at the what the full repository knows about each clustered object to ensure that new attributes have the correct value after the full repository is upgraded.

Cheers,
Morag

Higher versions of MQ may introduce new or changed cluster command messages that a full repository on a lower version may not under understand or take correct action. It's better to play safe, and upgrade the full repository qmgrs to at least the highest version in use in the MQ clusters.
