Sometimes when working with distributed software, you run across weird or odd names (e.g. Hadoop, MongoDB, Kafka, Bouncy Castle, etc.). Sometimes you feel weird saying them in a professional context, but eventually you get used to it (ok, maybe not Bouncy Castle ).

This one I ran across in the IETF space, just cracks me up.

That may be because all the obvious, meaningful, catchy names and acronyms for software have already been taken. Have you ever tried coming up with a good name for a new product? Without being completely ridiculous, it is quite hard.

Interestingly enough, I wrote an MQ monitor last year to supplement the vendor one that we have, and my manager asked me to give it a name.

So I named it "Lightwave".

An homage to my favorite cartoon growing up as a kid ->

WARNING: If you watch the Lightwave episode of Spiderman and His Amazing Friends, it was the last episode (written presumably after the series had been cancelled) and the writers had the corny meter turned up to full blast and were apparently also phoning it in . . .
