Just want to make sure that I have read something correctly.

When you configure a QMGR on z/OS you have to choose what communication protocol to use: Either TCP, SNA, or ISC.

The question I have is: It isn't possible to use multiple communication protocol in the same QMGR.

From the Intercommunication manual:

Quote:
Deciding on a connection
There are two forms of communication protocol that can be used:

TCP
LU 6.2 through APPC/MVS

Each channel definition must specify only one protocol as the transmission protocol (Transport Type) attribute. A queue manager can use more than one protocol to communicate.

ISC is NOT a protocol (as i read the book..) just the "old" CICS communication mover, it was "replaced" in last millenium by the non-CICS mover So if you're starting on a new Z/OS installation without any old CICS-ISC stuff, just drop it and choose the MVS mover for distributed queuing.

Ofcause it's posible to use both TCP/IP and LU6.2 at the same time (my customers can't live without it), but it's not supported under ISC.

You have to choose on channel level, which protocol to use.

It's easier to control channels using the MVS mover, because you easily can issue Z/OS commands towards it. The MVS mover is the <qmgr>CHIN task.

Just my $0.02
