A better question is what's wrong / bad about the book's definition?

By "the book" do you mean the description of QSGDSIP here? Or the description of queue sharing groups here?

The simple distinction (as both of these references make clear) is that SHARED objects store messages and definitions within the coupling facility, where GROUP objects store messages locally.

I underline the documented need to map GROUP object message storage out of page set zero with a storage class. A z/OS queue manager with page set zero full is not a fun experience.

I mean "disposition field" from IBM Webpshere Mq for Z/OS - main Menu (zos panel) :

G GROUP - The objects are defined in the shared repository, and are
accessible by all queue managers in the group. They will use them as
models to make local copies of the objects.

S SHARED - This disposition applies only to local queues. The queues
are defined in the shared repository, and are accessible locally by
all queue managers in the group. Messages are stored in the coupling
facility and are accessible locally by all queue managers in the
group.

Which maps to the QSGDISP attribute of the object. The description above is quite clear, I stand by my description above and point you for greater detail at the links in my post.

(I've never before heard an ISPF panel described as "the book"....)

The important distinction is the part about "local copies".
