WebSphere MQ Brokers - Toolkit for WebSphere Studio Open Technical Preview

This open technical preview is available to anyone who has experience with WebSphere MQ Integrator Broker V2.1 or might be interested in Eclipse-based tooling for the WebSphere MQ Integrator Broker. This announcement is for anyone who wants to learn about this tooling technology. A technical preview may or may not ever become a product.

What is the WebSphere MQ Brokers - Toolkit for WebSphere Studio Preview?

The WebSphere MQ Brokers - Toolkit for WebSphere Studio Preview provides an opportunity for you to gain early experience with new IBM technology. These emerging "alpha code" technologies are available for download at the earliest stages of development - before they are licensed or integrated into products - allowing users to evaluate and influence IBM research and development. The supplied Eclipse-based tooling is consistent with the industry-leading WebSphere family of tools and enable the development and maintenance of Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) solutions.

The key themes of the WebSphere MQ Brokers Preview are:

- Provide tools for writing, maintaining and deploying WebSphere MQ Integrator (WMQI) applications
- - - Edit-compile-test cycle
- - - Maintenance and team support
- - - Deployment and Administration [not available with this technical preview]
- Based on common standards
- - - Eclipse open framework
- - - Industry standard data models
- Focus on ease of use
- - - Tools scale from novice to expert
- - - Both developer and administrator
- - - Out-of-the-box experience
- Compatibility with the WMQI Version 2.1 broker

Goal: To provide the most complete Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) toolset in the industry.

Toolkit Information

A major objective of the tools is to provide rapid application development support. This objective is met by integrating the Edit-Compile-Test cycle for EAI solution development through the provision of:
- Customized editors for each development task
- Incremental validation that checks errors as you develop
- Team and versioning support that allows versioning of development artifacts

Message development is made simple by importing existing message definitions defined in XML Schema, DTD, C, and Cobol format. You can also easily create complex message structures with the Message Editor.

The tools clearly separate the logical and physical representations for ease of development. The benefit is that you define your logical model once but can target multiple wire/physical representations.

Message flow transformations development is easy to do with a graphical flow editor, a simple drag-and-drop editor that allows developers to easily model business transformation logic.

The new ESQL editor provides content sensitive code assist to allow developers to quickly develop ESQL transformations.

A simple to use mapping editor is also provided to graphically construct mappings and transformations. The mapping editor allows message to message transformations as well as message to database transformations.

What is included in the Preview?

The Preview only provides the tool, but not the runtime. The following features are NOT provided in the Preview, but may be available in a generally available product.
- A simple deployment and unit test environment
- Debug tools to debug transformation flow logic

The Preview code is provided without charge. No formal support is provided and the code must NOT be used in a production environment.
