I can't be the only one whose client (with web-based app) called to complain that the internet is down...

Back in my early days, when I was doing basic desktop helpdesk, I attempted to talk a user through finding a particular file on their computer. They said that it didn't exist because it wasn't listed in the view. The view was sorted by name, and only showed up to L because that was how big it was at the time. The file name started with an S.

Be assured that you're not alone. Whenever there is a web based problem, there is always an easy culprit MQ and the broker (WMB). It is never a service problem, or any outside impact of some app that is preventing MQ to function optimally... Right now I am looking at a SAN problem...
Whenever some non related app hits 500 connection to the DB it seems that one of our brokers runs into some trouble MQ related. All our files are on SAN. The timing looks a little bit too coincidental to me.

Anybody ever had the same type of experience?

With that said, I will add that my favorite aspect of MQ administration is troubleshooting, even when it is a bit silly.

How much of a start do you give the trouble? Handgun, rifle or semi-automatic?

Indeed not. I was once asked (during a network outage) if we had a local copy of the Internet...

Ah, my favourite trouble-ticket of all time (so far):
Code:
"MQ not working on this server..."

That was literally as much diagnostics as I was given. Having logged on, it took less than 30 seconds to figure out why, so I closed the ticket with:
Code:
"MQ not installed on this server!"

I sometimes wonder if there isn't something to eugenics after all

My favourite is "The network guys have tested the network, and it is fine". That is all they say, so obviously it must be WMQ generating the ECONNRESET itself. Most times after a great deal of persusasion we hear that there was a router problem, or somebody yanked the cable out, or ...

Still waiting for the words "It was the network after all, not WMQ, sorry for disturbing you guys", or "We'll check the network connectivity all the way through first, because it is usually our fault".

There are just enough problems found actually to be WMQ's fault (a tiny proportion) not to dismiss the problem out of hand. The last one I dealt with was in Dec 08.

MQ is often a better network monitoring tool then most network monitoring tools

Have a seat, make yourself comfortable, it's likely to be a long wait. Certainly I'm yet to hear it.

I know a UNIX SA who phrases it a tad more vividly:

And thus the 'Foreskin of Ignorance' was duly retracted ...
