The scenaro:

I have a server running WF v3.5 and I want to migrate to a new server and go to version 3.6. I have installed WF v3.6 on the new machine. Now I need to get the database migrated to the new server.

Question.) Does anyone see any problems with this approach? Backup the database on old server running WF v3.5 and restore it to new server running WF v3.6. Create a new WF configuration and point the config to the old v3.5 database. Run the DB migration utility. Verify everything works.

My only concern with this approach is the fact that I would be creating a new V3.6 configuration with a v3.5 database. Will the configuation even be built or will I get a error?

You need to run the migration utility (shipped with 3.6 installation) to make the 3.5 database compatible with 3.6 BEFORE you create the configuration.

I have tried this approach before and it works. The QManager name, System Name and System Group name were exactly same (and they need to be the same) as the old box .
