Hi All,
We are in a process of setting up our Production environment and wanted to find out which of it is preffered (or) best recommended.
Installing the JDBC adapter on AIX server (OR) installing it on Windows NT?
We are going to use WBI Message broker with it, and our broker will reside on AIX server.
'Am aware of the performance factor. But anything apart from that?
Since most of the components (for eg.) Business object generator, ODA, Visual tester, connector configurator are all GUI based, won't we be better off if we have it on Windows?
Please advice.

What are you going to use the JDBC adapter for, with WBIMB as your broker?
All of the "GUI" components you talk about are completely separate from the runtime, to the best of my knowledge, and probably shouldn't be installed on the production machine - but only on administrator/developer workstations.

No. All these are development tools. Adapter is a runtime component.
I have my adapters on the same machine as ICS.

Jeff's right, these are not runtime components and should be installed on the dev machine; besides, why not install the adapter package on both, starting the adpater itself on preferred machine? Edit the config file on the dev server, and export it to the adapter running on the prod server.
Keeping in mind that the adpater configuration, after initial setup, is not changed that often, I think your main considerations should be not GUI related, but rather:
- Stability and performance: I'd personally rather put it on the same machine the DB's on.
- An additional QM: the adapter needs a QM, if you don't wish to install another on the DB machine, put it on the
- Monitoring: put it on the machine that you can best monitor.
A compromise between these three, should yield the best result. |

Thank you all for your replies.
To summarise, also to ensure that i have understood it correctly, below are the sequence of steps.
I shall install JDBC adapters (including adapter framework) on both Windows and AIX machine.
The following things would be done on Windows machine:
1) Generating a business object - . xsd file
2) Creation of connector configuration file - .cfg file
3) starting the adapter and ensure it polls for events and stop it.
4) FTP the .cfg file to Unix server(AIX)
The following things on AIX server:
1) start the adapter with the configuration file which was ftp'ed from the Unix server.
2) making sure it starts properly.
